Roots and Rivers is a dance film that uses the metaphor of water to explore resilience, adaptability and interconnectedness. Dancers embody currents and flows, moving between unity and divergence, symbolising how nature mirrors human relationships and emotional cycles.
The film was choreographed and co-directed by the Bharatanatyam dancer Anekha Pillai and developed and performed by dance artists Kavya Iyer Ramalingam, Hollie Wilkinson, Rajeswari Ramaswamy, Sharanya Das, who specialise in diverse styles of Indian Classical and Contemporary dance
The piece was filmed and co-directed by dance videographer Joe Priest.

About Nupur Arts

Nupur Arts is an arts organisation based at the LCB Depot specialising in South Asian Classical dance. As well as teaching dance to over 200 students each week, Nupur Arts’ work involves the curation of professional dance and music events, with its annual Nartan Festival offering a vibrant celebration of South Asian arts and culture to the people of Leicester and beyond. The company continually runs artist development programmes which support emerging artists from across the county to develop industry skills and produce work with professional production values.
