Where I Begin: Writing Workshop and Open Mic
Writing East Midlands with Mr Shay

The Writing East Midlands team will be in the Guildhall all day with information and drop in activities.
11am -1pm - The day begins with drop-in writing workshops with prompts surrounding roots and futures, as well as activities drawing inspiration from other performance events taking place at the festival.
1.30 - 2.30 pm - Leicester’s Poet Laureate, Mr Shay, joins Writing East Midlands for a fun and insightful writing workshop exploring your story and how your roots, heritage, and culture make you the individual you are. Suitable for writers at all levels, even if you’ve never written before.
3.30pm-5pm -An open mic event, where writers are invited to share their work whether or not you were at the workshop. The open mic will begin with Mr Shay performing some of his own poetry.

About Mr Shay
Mr. Shay is a Leicester-based poet, musician, beatboxer, rapper and loop pedal artist, widely recognised for his dedication to youth engagement and community creativity. Over the past decade, he has delivered workshops, projects and commissions across Leicester, reaching participants of all ages and backgrounds through schools, community centres and arts organisations.
