Cycles and Circles Evening Raag
Sitar Music Society
1st July
Attenborough Arts

Immerse yourself in an enchanting evening of Indian classical music that traces the enduring beauty of circles and cycles—echoing through rāg, rhythm, and resonance. This special performance explores the continuous flow of musical patterns, where beginnings dissolve into endings and return again, much like the cycles of nature and life itself.
Renowned tabla virtuoso Ustad Sukhvinder Singh Pinky brings intricate rhythmic compositions to life, weaving dynamic patterns that pulse with energy and precision. Alongside him, Kaviraj Singh offers a soulful blend of santoor and voice, unfolding melodic landscapes that rise, return, and transform.
Together, the artists create a dialogue between melody and rhythm, tradition and improvisation—guiding listeners through an immersive journey of sound. Experience the meditative power of repetition, variation, and cyclical form in an intimate setting where every note connects, returns, and renews.

About Sitar Music Society

The Sitar Music Society is a registered charity based in the UK. Its aims are to advance the education of the general public in the history, theory and performance of Indian Classical Music and Dance in general, and the Sitar in particular.
Since 2015, we have been creating opportunities for teaching, mentoring, and training to develop excellence. Under the continuing guidance of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, we particularly wish to promote the growing numbers of talented UK-based artistes who are drawing on the long heritage of Indian classical arts and creating new repertoires.
About Ustad Sukhvinder Singh Pinky

With his first major public performance at Sri Satguru Pratap Singh Ji Sangeet Samelan, Birla Mateshwari Hall (1978), Ustad Sukhvinder Singh Pinky built a strong foundation in pakhawaj under Baba Nihal Singh Ji before, at 11, becoming a disciple of Pt. Kishan Maharaj Ji with Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji’s blessings. He has collaborated with legends including Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt. Jasraj, and others, performing at Carnegie Hall, BBC Orchestra, and Darbar Festival. A Grammy winner (1994) for Meeting by the River, he has received multiple honours and continues to perform globally.
About Kaviraj Singh

Kaviraj Singh is a skilled musician renowned for his mastery of the Santoor and Indian classical vocals. From a young age, he showed remarkable talent, influenced by his musical family. He began his training in santoor with his father, a Sitar maestro, and further refined his skills under Ustad Harjinderpal Singh, a disciple of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. Kaviraj is also known for his soulful voice, honed under Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty in the Patiala vocal tradition. His performances, both in the UK and globally, have earned him acclaim for his technical brilliance, emotional depth, and artistic finesse.
